Our First Home

Uncategorized April 18, 2008

This was our first home. It was a brand new, builder basic 2 story, but it was perfect for a first time home owner. Looking back we were a little crazy because I bought it while I was actually in my final semester of University at Cal State. I knew the market was getting pretty expensive and basically every house for sale had multiple offers on it so I had to act fast when one popped up. My mom actually found it in the newspaper classifieds, took a quick peek at it and I bought it sight unseen directly from the seller. We’re definitely not brave enough to try that again. My very first time seeing the house was the day I moved in.

This house was much smaller and it felt a little more cottage-y, so we rolled with that.

We updated the kitchen on a budget of about $400, click here to see the transformation and click here for the tutorial on how to make your own hood vent cover.

Your home is very beautiful, I love what you did with the kitchen. I’m thinking of painting my cabinets white too, I’ll have to check out your tutorial on the hood cover too.

Where might one get a glass teardrop type chandelier like the one hanging in this bedroom's photo? It's beautiful (as is most everyting I'm seeing upon my first visit to your blog)!

After looking at so many fantasy homes online (you know, the ones in Spain w/the perfectly aged wooden floors & the breath taking credenzas & the thousands of dollars in art work) it is so refreshingly realistic to see a home that maybe isn't your dream home but you do the best with what you have AND are able to afford. My boyfriend & I moved into a brand new 'suburban cookie cutter' style home & I thought I could never design again. Your blog has helped me to see that a home may still be beautiful even though maybe it wasn't what you dreamed of. And I thank you for that. I now look forward to making my home…my home! Regards, Jordan
